Instance Type Price Comparison during Node Provisioning

I am trying to understand the node provisioning process of Karpenter and had a question around it: Does karpenter internally compares the pricing of the instance types when making a decision on which node to provision?

From the codebase, I saw that karpenter is using the createFleet API of AWS and providing an allocationStrategy of lowest price to it, along side a list of instance types which it found suitable with regards to the current batching window.
