Should parameters with nil values be absent or be just the key?

I have a (post body) parameter that I've set to nil, which is the best I can do without getting patches into some other Gems that do the Faraday calls. I want this parameter to be dropped from the encoding, but at the moment Faraday encodes these as just the parameter key. Is this the way it must stay, meaning that I must get nil parameters removed before it gets to Faraday, or can Faraday do it? An empty-string value would still get encoded properly.
